1959 MGA Twin Cam FHC
A very pretty MGA Twin Cam restored in the early 2000s and still in excellent condition.
HISTORY
Built in 1959 and sent to South Africa in component form as a CKD (Complete Knock Down) and registered in South Africa in 1960. Imported back to the UK in June 1993 and purchased by the current owner in September 1993 from Carisma Cars in Surrey and stored until restoration began in 2001. The restoration was completed in 2014 including a complete engine rebuild by Peter Wood of Westwood Portway Ltd. At the same time the car was UK registered with the plate 811UYG and used as a fast road car. We have a large ream of invoices from the restoration process. Unused from 2019 when the last MOT ran out. We have given the car a complete recommission at a cost of £3400 including: carbs rebuild, engine setup/tune, replaced missing front anti-roll bar, replace missing axle straps, downpipe that was touching chassis leg passenger side adjusted, fitted missing rear exhaust silencer clamp, fuel lines and main harness front to rear reposted and secured, both battery’s lose in trays secured, drivers outer door handle secured, heater box system reinstated, full fluid service, boot carpet set fitted, pre-MOT check. New parts include: carb svc kit x2, plugs, cap, points, rotor, king lead, battery clamps x2, battery kill switch, axle straps x2, front anti-roll bar kit, exhaust clamp, boot carpet set inc spare wheel cover, heater pipes x2, heater cable, heater tap, heater adaptors x2, demister tubes x2, heater control switch, heater induction hose. The car is MOTed until April 2024 with no advisories despite being tax and MOT exempt and is ULEZ friendly.
SPECIFICATION
Red with black seats with red piping, centre lock disc wheels (from new) that have been professionally widened with a hoop (not banded), centre arm rest, full-size spare disc wheel, twin batteries, four wheel disc brakes (from new), oil cooler (from new), non-standard grille, non-standard steering wheel (original comes with it), SU fuel pump, 2x 12 volt batteries with positive earth.
CONDITION
Lovely glossy paint all-round that is not perfect but has stood up really well, excellent chrome, good Michelin tyres all round, very nice interior with no wear to the seats or carpet and under the bonnet the engine bay presents superbly, as does the carpeted boot area and spare wheel with cover. No signs of rust, this car was comprehensively restored in the ’00s and as such is a wonderful, usable car – not a show-winning car, but you’d be very happy to show it! Under the car is in amazing condition with no rust and lots of new parts on show. Owners manuals and many documents, a magazine feature, a Heritage Trust certificate and lots of MOT certificates.
