HISTORY
Built in 1968 and owned by a Mr Wilkins from the Netherlands who owned a Daf dealership which was subsequently taken over to become Volvo. Mr Wilkins was dissatisfied with this outcome and moved to the South of France taking this Daf with him. It was used sparingly and stored in his barn. Many years later a Mr Costa heard about the car and approached the first owner and persuaded him to sell. The car was used once by Mr Costa at an event in the Netherlands then sold to the third owner, a UK resident who collected the car on a trailer and took it home to Eastbourne, MOTed it and registered it. This takes us up to 2011. The car was painted and had a major mechanical overhaul including:
New remote brake servo
New front and rear discs, pads, calipers, shoes, slave cylinders and hoses. The braking system was then cleaned and bled
Primary and secondary transmission removed, overhauled, painted and reinstalled
Replaced drive belts
Replaced bushes in gear linkage
Carb and vacuum units overhauled
Replaced front crossmember (damaged not rusted)
Replaced front engine oil seal
Fit new water-pump, fan belt and thermostat
New Goodyear tyres all-round
Fit 2x Cibie driving lights, relays, fuse box, switch
New exhaust system
Petrol tank repaired
New battery
New centrifugal clutch linings
New flywheel bearings
New timing chain
New points and condenser
Replace propshaft
Replace track rod ends and steering rack ends
New wiper blades
Rear wishbone (original had a stress fracture)
Parts all supplied by Danny at Daf Hobby in Sitard, the Netherlands. Since all this work was carried out the car has traveled 5,000 miles. The Daf is tax and MOT exempt but comes with 7 previous certificates and has a current test valid until April 2024 with no advisories. This car has been waxoiled from new and has zero rust and has never been welded thanks to its early life in sunny South of France and careful storage. These early cars come with frameless doors, soon discontinued due to wind noise.
SPECIFICATION
Dark red with sand half alcantara seats (front), Cibie driving lights, genuine Minilite wheels (special order from Minilite), rev counter, 3-spoke sports steering wheel, carpeted boot with jack.
CONDITION
Lovely glossy paint all-round that is not perfect but has stood up really well, bumpers are stainless steel and in great condition, excellent Good Year tyres all round, very nice interior with no wear to the seats or carpet except some light cracks on the top of the rear seat due to sun exposure and a few cracks in the dashboard ‘wood’. Under the bonnet the engine bay presents superbly, as does the carpeted boot area. No signs of rust, this example is a wonderful, usable car – not a show-winning car, but you’d be very happy to show it! Under the car is in amazing condition with no rust and lots of new parts on show. Owners manuals and many documents and seven MOT certificates. We have a box of spares including an extra gearbox and the original wheels and tyres.
